TESTIMONIALS

"CSTRC has made a huge difference in our son’s life.  Learning to ride a horse has improved his confidence, coordination and strength.  The saying that “there’s something about the outside of a horse that’s good for the inside of a boy” is absolutely true.  We’re very grateful for CSTRC!"

Thank you, James (Ross’ Father)

"As a parent and volunteer at Colorado Springs Therapeutic Riding Center I have witnessed the miracle of healing between a special needs child and a horse. My son, Harrison, is non-verbal. He communicates with an argumentative device (Dynavox), understands a little sign language, and sometimes uses his own voice. Since his introduction to therapeutic riding two years ago he now uses his own voice everyday to ask to see, ride, visit the horses. His balance, core strength, attention, communication and understanding skills have all improved and continue too!  Harrison continually tells everyone using his (Dynavox) about the horses and his love of riding.  It has truly been an amazing experience to participate with the special riders and observe each one try so hard for themselves.  Being a parent of a special needs child we all search for hope.  CSTRC has been instrumental in helping my son become the best he can be in his life."

"Nothing beats the big smile we see every time Amy gets on a horse. Everyone who helps her at CSTRC is outstanding."

"CSTRC has helped our daughter out immensely! We are so glad we found therapeutic riding and have seen significant changes in Madison’s balance, confidence, and ability to follow complex instructions. We love everyone on the staff and the volunteers. They are all caring and great at what they do."

Sam’s Story: "I have noticed that since Sam has been riding Bubba and working with Jamie, he can now go from lying down to sitting up on his own.  This is a huge achievement for Sam. Sanfilippo Syndrome keeps Sam at a very large risk for painful hip and leg contractures and his Equine-Assisted therapy helps to keep him stretched and flexible. His balance, both while walking and standing, is much better and I feel that without his work at CSTRC he would be not have the physical ability to make these small, but very important gains in his muscle tone and over physical   strength.  He is sitting up straighter and this helps with his breathing and lung function and signals a strengthening in his vertebrae and neck muscles."

- Kathy (Sam’s Mom)

"Raising a child with special needs is a challenge in itself. Sadly it is extremely emotional and financially it is a hardship for life. Our son Harrison is 100% dependent on all who care for him. He is 12 years old, has limited to no fine motor skills, non- verbal , and has been in diapers since birth. He is diagnosed with Arnold Chiari, Dyspraxia, Dysgraphia, global developmental delays, food allergies, and asthma. He requires daily CNA care for all ADL"s and will be dependent for life. As his parents we have searched for all and everything that will help him heal. Gratefully the healing power of horses / therapeutic riding has made a difference for him. We never heard a word spoken from him until after seeing a horse. He now asks "to see the horses" everyday. When this miracle occurred we then sought out therapeutic riding. Financially the costs of therapeutic riding / raising / owning a horse are not feasible for many. Yet having a disabled child who shows such a desire to heal from horses we are forever thankful for grants & scholarships that help support or son and all who unfortunately have to live with the on going care of special needs children / adults. As a parent of a special needs child I have witnessed not only my son but other disabled individuals work so hard to heal themselves. The horses bring pure joy to everyone involved in healing our special children. We are fortunate to have CSTRC provide such a wonderful experience towards a path of healing. The gracious support of donors and volunteers is a key element to ensure the continuing success of Colorado Springs Therapeutic Riding program. From the bottom of our hearts we are forever thankful to all. God Bless."
